Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) or Bandung Insitute of Technology is the oldest engineering school in Indonesia. It was firstly established as Technische Hoogeschool (TH) in 1920. In 1959, the present Institut Teknologi Bandung was founded by the Indonesian government as an institution of higher learning of science, technology and arts, with a mission of providing education, research and service to the community. ITB is located in Bandung city (the capital city of West Java Province), a mere 3 hours’ drive from Jakarta (the capital city of Indonesia). The city of Bandung lies on mountainous area with an altitude of 770 meters and has an average daily temperature of 23oC. The ITB main campus and its other satellite campuses, cover a total area of 770,000 square meters. In line with its mission to become an outstanding, distinguished, independent, and worldwide recognized university, ITB sustains quality educational programs. In 2016, ITB has been named as the best university in Indonesia according to Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education. 2017 QS University Rankings has positioned ITB in rank of 86 in Asia and 331 in the world. ITB comprises of 12 faculties and/or schools, providing 53 Bachelor programs, 51 Master programs and 27 Doctoral programs across Science, Engineering, Art, and Business field of studies. In 2017, 26 study programs have obtained accreditation from various international accreditation bodies such as ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology), ASIIN (German Accreditation Agency for Study Programs in Engineering, Informatics, Natural Sciences and Mathematics), KAAB (Korea Architectural Accrediting Board), RSC (Royal Society of Chemistry), JABEE (Japan accreditation agency for study program in engineering, agriculture and science) and ABEST21 (The Alliance on Business Education and Scholarship for Tomorrow, a 21st century). As premier institute of higher education, the academic degree of ITB normally completed in 4 (four) years for bachelor degree, 2 (two) years for master degree, and 3-4 (three to four) years for doctoral degree. At present, ITB offers undergraduate international programs conducted in English as the primary language of instruction. Those international programs are open for both foreign and Indonesian students. As part of the international program, students will spend one-or-two semester overseas at the ITB’s partner universities on an exchange or double-degree scheme. Most of master and doctoral programs at ITB welcome foreign students as many of ITB professors and researchers are internationally well known. ITB encourages international mobility program for its students and staffs, at present ITB hosts student exchange program partnering with more than 30 overseas universities in Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America. Students interested to join the ACTS Student Exchange Programme under the AUN-ASEAN Credit Transfer System (ACTS) scheme at ITB have to apply to through ACTS website (http://acts.ui.ac.id/).
