Course Detail

Course Title  Ordinary Differential Equations
Course Code  SM 2201
Credit  4
Semester Offered  1
Duration of Courses
Degree  Undergraduate
Programme  Bachelor of Science
Course Description  This course aims to provide students with knowledge that enables them to identify suitable methods for solving solve various types of differential equation. It also introduces students to many applications of differential equations and shows them how mathematics is applied to various disciplines in the social, medical, biological and physical sciences as well as other areas. On completing this module, the student should be able to predict the behaviour of solutions of ordinary differential equation (ODEs) by means of graphical representation without solving them. The students should also be able to identify which method is suitable for solving or reducing certain types of differential equation, starting from first-order and continuing on to higher-order ODEs. Students should develop improved integration skills, and be able to use software like Mathematica to assist in solving ODEs or double check results found analytically.
