Course Description |
The main theme of this module is on the life cycle and its major focus is the growing baby. The course comprises a longitudinal attachment: where students are attached over the whole of the first year to a family where one member is expecting a baby. They make regular visits to the family and antenatal clinics along with the expecting mother, each time with specific objectives, at various stages of the pregnancy, after birth and during post-natal care, which will enable them to learn about the process of the child birth, care of the mother and the baby. The students may have opportunities to learn about family dynamics, particularly in instances where a family member has an event or chronic illness, where students will be able to observe how the family copes with such an event or illness.
