Course Description  This is a fully integrated course with four main curricular themes (i. e. Health Sciences, Our Community, Patient Care and Personal and Professional Development) in which the cardiovascular and respiratory systems are emphasised. The content will be revisited according to theme. Under the theme of Health Sciences the following topics will be covered: anatomy, histology and physiology of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Students will learn about these systems in common dysfunctional or disease states through using problem-based learning cases and interactive teaching sessions. The theme of Patient Care will focus on communication skills with patients with cardiovascular or respiratory disorders. Skills associated with clinical examination of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems will also be covered. The theme of Our Community will focus on issues of Public Health, Healthcare System, Health Promotion associated with the topics covered under the theme of Health Sciences while the theme of Personal and Professional Development will focus on issues of law and ethics in the field of medicine; research methodologies and critical appraisal and IT skills and time management in medicine.
