Course Description |
This is a fully integrated course with four main curricular themes (i.e. Health Sciences, Our Community, Patient Care and Personal and Professional Development) with an emphasis on the musculoskeletal system and skin. Some content will be revisited according to the four themes.
Under the theme of Health Sciences, students will learn about the anatomy, histology and physiology of the tissues within the musculoskeletal system that includes muscles, bones, joints and related structures of the different parts of the body, and the skin. Both normal and abnormal repair or regeneration processes of these tissues, and their common dysfunctional or disease state with detailed studies of basic mechanisms, clinical features, assessment and management of the most common diseases will also be addressed using interactive learning and problem-based learning methods.
The theme of Patient Care will focus on communication and clinical skills associated with the topics covered under the theme of Health Sciences.
The themes of Our Community will focus on issues of Public Health, Healthcare System and Health Promotion associated with the topics covered under the theme of Health Sciences while the theme of Personal and Professional Development will focus on issues of law and ethics in the field of medicine, research methodologies and critical appraisal; and IT skills and time management in medicine.
