Course Description  This course will provide students with an understanding of basics plant morphology and its importance in the lives of plants, particularly in terms of the functioning of the plant body. Students will relate the internal structure of plants to their external morphology and the functions of the different plant organs. Students will also obtain an understanding of the relationships within the plant kingdom through a study of the basic groups of plants and their evolutionary history. From the lectures and practicals, students will be able to: • Identify vegetative and reproductive parts of flowering plants, and any modifications thereof • Recognise how modifications of the basic structure enable plants to be adapted to specialized environments and life styles • Be able to prepare and stain thin sections of plants, and identify the cells and tissues in such sections • Identify the main groups of plants, and understand the evolutionary relationships between them
