Course Description |
The aim of this module is to study the development of children’s literature by focusing on selected ‘classic’ literary works written for children as well as more contemporary texts. In doing this, the module will examine the different genres of children’s literature such as picture books, poetry, fairy tales and novels, using tools of literary analysis such as elements of plot, character, setting, theme, point of view, style, and tone. Finally, issues in literature for children such as representations of gender, race and censorship will be discussed.
