Course Description  The module aims to introduce students to some of the main concerns of contemporary social and cultural geography: its theoretical perspectives and changing trends of identity and cultures of place. It focuses upon an understanding of places and cultures as a result of social relations and globalization. It shows that meanings and identities are differentiated according to the social constructions such as age, class, gender, race and ethnicity. This module not only demonstrates how different places, identities and cultures are influenced by globalization but also how cultures and identities vary across space. This module emphasizes that place is essential to the creation of distinct social and cultural identity.
