Course Description  This module explores the ways in which the processes of production, distribution and consumption are organised in different types of societies. It begins by looking at societies without specialised economic institutions, such as money and the market, and goes on to look at how such societies are transformed as a result of the introduction of money and their incorporation into the market economy. The final part of the module takes an anthropological perspective on modern market societies based on mass production and consumer culture.
