Course Description |
This is an elective course continuing the themes of natural resource management and environmental conservation explored in Resource Studies- The course examines particular environmental problems and considers their solutions. It considers institutional framework in which environmental policy is decided and studies some of the ways it may be implemented; legislation, regulation, economic incentives, environmental assessment, protected areas and international agreement. The course also examines, rifteans by which conservation principles can be integrated into development programmes. In the second part of the course a comparative approach is adopted and the experience of selected countries in developing and implementing environmental policies is described and analysed. Particular emphasis is placed on the ASEAN region.
