Language and Culture: Postcolonialism introduces students to the study and appreciation of this literature. It begins by providing students with a basic introduction to the postcolonial approach, before using it to examine how the “Orient” and the “West” have been represented in a variety of literary texts. Examples are drawn from short stories, novels, travel writing, music and film. The overall aim is to help students develop the ability to understand images/representations in new ways.
