Course Description  An introduction to the history of advertising from the pre-industrial period to the present. Consideration of advertising in its relationship to communication design, and from the fields of sociology, psychology, critical theory, political science, etc. Discussion of the connection between the growth of advertising and parallel technological developments. Lectures and presentation of historical examples and assignment of weekly readings. Completion of research paper and visual presentation.
