Degree | Undergraduate |
Programme | Bachelor of Engineering |
Course Description | This module aims to provide students with a working knowledge of basic Chemistry. All learning objectives in this course contribute to develop competencies in students to: perform stoichiometric calculations on isotopes of elements, on compounds, mixtures, ideal and real gases, acids and bases; to predict molecular structures and molecular geometries, and types of bonding; name and predict the structure of inorganic, organic and biological molecules; and to express the time dependence of reactions in the form of a rate equation and reaction mechanism |
Prerequisite | None |
Other Description | Contents: 1. Elemental composition and empirical and molecular formulas of molecules 2. Balanced equations and calculations for precipitation, acid-base, and oxidation-reduction reactions 3. Properties and theories of ideal and real gases 4. Atomic structure, electron bonding, and molecular orbitals 5. Survey of organic chemistry and biochemistry 6. Kinetic laws of chemical reactions |
