Course Description  This module will introduce students to the principles of thermodynamics and energy conversion systems. These skills will be beneficial for their future studies and career in engineering. Upon successful completion of this module, students should be able to understand the concepts of heat and work, first and second laws for closed and open systems including steady processes and cycles, thermodynamic properties of substances and interrelationships, phase change and phase equilibrium, chemical reactions and chemical equilibrium and representative applications. Students should also understand the introduction to energy conversion systems including direct energy conversion in fuel cells, photovoltaic systems, etc.
