The 4th AUN-ACTS Steering Committee Meeting

The 4th Steering Committee Meeting was hosted by Universiti Brunei Darussalam on 3 – 4 April 2012. AUN secretariat, AUN-ACTS Secretariat, members of the AUN-ACTS Steering Committee and representatives from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam were reported attending the annual meeting. They mainly discussed about evaluation of the first year ACTS implementation.

Based on the data recorded by ACTS online integrated system from 2011 to 2012, there were 232 applicants from 9 AUN Member Universities in Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand applied for AUN Student Exchange Programme through AUN-ACTS. 137 applicants were nominated by their Home Universities, however, only 51 applicants accepted to study in Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Universitas Indonesia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Putra Malaysia, university Sains Malaysia, University of Malaya and Mahidol University. To encourage more participation, AUN Secretariat are requested to reinforce the commitment of providing 5 full scholarships for outbound students participating in student exchange under AUN-ACTS.

To facilitate online application process as well as to ensure smooth operation throughout the system, AUN-ACTS had improved following online features:

  • Notification system
  • Online application form
  • Application procedure
  • Course subject database

In addition to evaluation of the first year ACTS implementation, AUN Secretariat also informed the meeting about intention of Japanese government for cooperation under an initiative on “Re-inventing Japan Project” . This project was aimed to promote Japanese students to study at ASEAN countries using ACTS as the mechanism for credit transfer.
